| The time Today: Tuesday 29 May 2001 Time Team starts its investigations in an area often credited as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The archaeology could take the Team back nearly 400 years. Then: Industrial Britain The people who worked here were at the forefront of technological advances in manufacturing. Britain led the world in the new industrial techniques and this area was known throughout the world. The place Today the excavations are to take place in and around a pub, in an area that was once a centre of busy activity. Can the Team keep away from the soapy suds long enough to do any work? |

| The point The cellars of the pub have some interesting features relating to the industrial past of the building. Can the Team discover what was once produced here and find evidence of other related buildings and those who worked in them? The means As usual the Team will be using the latest techniques and equipment to discover what was happening on this site nearly 400 years ago. Some of the work is going to take place inside the pub so all sorts of safety issues need to be considered. With restricted room for diggers and crew this is going to be a challenge. Its shoot four of the series and after the Bronze Age, Roman and medieval periods of the last three shoots, the Team is looking forward to getting stuck into some industrial archaeology. |
